9mm vs. .45 Anon Kalashnikov 13/10/05(Sat)05:22 No. 14799 [Reply]

Hello /v/, first time poster here, my 21st D-day is coming up and I want my license to carry and conceal. I have my eyes on a snazzy Glock 21 chambered in the .45 but I only have experience in the lighter 9 mm round, so, I need to know, is the extra recoil very noticeable? I am a pretty big guy and can usually handle myself but is there a hugely noticeable difference in kick?

Anon Kalashnikov 25/04/16(Wed)04:35 No. 15772

Yes, the recoil is greater.
However it's not bad, certainly way more manageable than the G20 (10mm)
The G21 is a bit heavier and larger in the hand than a G17 or 19.

.45 has a couple things going for it when used in a G21.
First the standard mag is 13 rounds. So plenty of capacity.
Second the recoil had a little less "snap" than some other rounds like 40SW or 357 sig.
Lastly, the .45 cartridge is subsonic, so if you had to fire it indoors to defend yourself, you're less likely to get permanent hearing problems from it.

Anon Kalashnikov 25/04/16(Wed)04:47 No. 15773

I skipped over the concealed carry aspect of the question.

As some other anons mentioned, maybe a smaller pistol for concealed carry would be better.

Although .45 is a great cartridge, if you're going to be hauling a pistol around with you everywhere, you'll soon be looking for something a little smaller and lighter than a G21.

There's a reason that G19's are so popular. The size/weight is pretty good for most people.

Are you guys all american ?

See, I'm french. No, wait, don't pee at me, let me explain.

In this piece of shit of country, weapons are said as "murdering things" and "devilized" (I don't know if I can be understood on this word but I give it a try) as hell.

I can't understand this commie shit. Take a wrench and hit the head of someone with all you can give… The result will be the same as shooting someone right between the eyes. That's just for practicing in case of war, hunt, or just shoot at targets for the pleasure to do this as a sport. As I do.

(Also, our medias are telling that America is fucked up to not prohibit weapons, and french dummies fall right on the trap.)

What do you guys think of this crap ?

"Boring" but necessary Anon Kalashnikov 21/08/31(Tue)14:32 No. 15611 [Reply]

We all love the talk of stocking up on ammunition, magazines, back up firearms, back ups for our back ups, caches, etc, ad nauseum.
How many of us stock up on and maintain a supply of the "boring" wear items?
I recently basically built a "new" .30-06 Winchester Model of 1917, and in so doing I found out that a few parts had begun to wear in the last 100 years.
I replaced the Monte Carlo sporter stock with original wood furniture and all correct (not correct stamping, just correct parts) handguards, bands, screws, buttplate, lugs, etc. All the screws were replaced with new old stock or new reproduction screws. The old trigger plate / receiver screws had actually stretched.
The bolt got a new firing pin spring, new extractor, and a bit of a smoothing of things inside. Cocking piece and firing pin were still good so they stayed.
I got a spare extractor spring, extractor/bolt stop spring screw. Also fitted this rifle with the correct sling, a Kerr No-Buckl M1917 (the 1903 version is too short, in case you are wondering.)
Finally, I checked headspace with a new field gauge. No, the bolt didn't close on it, so I'm good to go.
These little wear parts are important for firearms that get used and will be expected to defend and / or feed us.
These bits and bobs are boring but absolutely necessary, and necessary to check and maintain.
Now I have spares of a few of the more wear prone parts, do you all keep spares of your "boring" but important parts?

My Chink laser accidentally turned itself on in my coat and burned a hole clean through but the worst part is the lens cracked and I need to replace it but I cant budge it out of the cap housing.

Need reliable tutorials on how to get it out.
