does yt-dlp still work nowadays? how do i get it to run on ubuntu? I wish freetube worked instead but it doesnt let me download both audio and video at the same time and it says it has an ip block

Yes yt-dlp is still the best option, I use it all the time. I don't run Linux so I don't know how you install it but it should be easy as fuck, ask GPT. Apparently all you have to do is:

python3 -m pip install -U yt-dlp

YouTube made downloading videos a Premium only feature years ago, but I think it just recently started enforcing it, specifically targeting video download sites and tools like yt-dlp.

I don't have anything to back up the "recently started enforcing" part, except personal experience.
