Old anime channers, what's your view on new anime channers, circa 2011-2012 forwards?
me I'm not an anime fan or even consumer, but I'm curious because as a 2009-2010 fag the change was fucking huge.

I arrived here via /a/ a lifetime ago, and I'll die here. Chans in general have become a shadow of what they were, nevermind the changes from weeb culture to whatever they represent now.

There is a handful of anime worth watching. Other than that, I just always like the art. So I don't give a fuck who is talking about what in what manner etc, they don't understand anything about art neither before nor now. So who cares what they're saying.

However the last 5 years or so was an absolute explosion of fan art on the various social media sites which I appreciate a lot. Truly masterful works.

I mean I like the visuals. Actual story and the rest, as I said, there's only a handful of animes actually worth watching. Same deal with movies in general, I would even say books however most of them I haven't read. It's not easy making a perfect work.

I was initially going to reply to this thread then I messed up because I started writing oh... 2009-10 that's when moe got big with K-on and I wrote a bunch about how much anime changed around that time including self censoring and changing things for foreign markets that were opening up then I re-read and realized op was talking about how the channers changed. I guess it's a mirror of real life and all fandoms though.

I do, sort of. I had a HTC phone back when Aya Hirano came to Otakon in 2012. I have a cool story to share about that time. Aya Hirano voiced Pachira in Magipoka which is my favorite series. She had a concert the second day if I remember but the first day she had a q&a or something. Anyways, me and my friend (pictured as Lucy from zomg so edgy Elfen Lied) were like three rows back in this huge room at the Baltimore convention center listening to her then they said everyone to line up against the wall for autographs and it went ALL THE WAY around the wall and out the doors into another room and then the next. So we were like... we didn't have anything for her to sign and were in cosplay except for this plastic bag thing they gave us so we just moved up to the first row. We were like only 10 feet from her who was sitting on a table and they were calling up each person who lined up one by one from 30ft away along the wall. So we talked to her (with difficulty) during the downtime. I am 90% sure I had my Sony Cybershot with a pro duo card with me and when I took a picture of her some guy came over and said not to take pictures.

Honestly, I didn't really like Haruhi too much. Also yes, cell phones if they weren't in super bright light sucked back then.

I packed it up around 2005, the DVD box sets were on the decline after Blu-ray came out and I preferred the old cel art stuff anyway.

It went mainstream soon after, the entire planet was on the stuff and it all looked like Bleach and Naruto clones to me. I'm not mad, it just wasn't my scene anymore and I guess I'm fine with a new generation finding something they liked. It really clogged up the IBs though but if not anime, it would have been something else.

Taken globally, the visuals had a creative explosion.

Only with ai do I see quality dilution to the point of regression, but the real artists are still going perhaps stronger than ever.

The stories always sucked except for a few like berserk, lain, some other deeper ones that are expressing a creative vision rather than just trying to predict the audience.

Altho I really loved Franxx and that was newslop that was rushed and other than awesome beautiful characters the animation is below average..

Hunter D is old though and really pretty, loddoss war is pretty, Jin Roh super atmospheric and beautiful... few are actually worth watching without music playing over the dialogue.

Nausicaa is worth watching with sounds and all

Series though are all a fucking grind... Sorry liru even yours, Life's too short for that

One thing that made older anime special was it really was niche at the time and was made primarily for the Japanese audience. That's what made it unique and that's why some foreigners liked it. There were many more localized puns and uniquely Japanese tropes like say from even Lucky Star that generally went over peoples heads. Now it's watered down and "edible" dare I say sometimes even "woke" and it's been a turn off for quite some time. Even series like Panty Stocking season two I couldn't even get past one episode it sucked so much. Maybe I just got older and tastes matured and the first wasn't great either, but now things are much different than before. I might only watch a single anime a season now. So I can't really comment too much on how new anime fans are these days because when I want to talk about something and it's quite rare, it's usually a much older series. In general, I think younger people get offended to quickly and modern anime is watered down. Meh, I'm old, we all get old.

I will admit, as an outlier, I have been watching Yani Neko and I did chuckle a few times. (´艸´)

I've been weebing it up since the tape trading days of the 80s, and I have to concur. Anime in general has been "cleaned up" for more reach into the international market. I feel like this is especially true in the past 15 years or so. That said, there is still a steady stream of anime, and even moreso manga, that doesn't cater to western standards. It just doesn't get the hype from western license holders (if it gets picked up at all) that more mainstream series do.

Sure, everybody's nose is a little bit different and their eyes are slanted a little bit differently, but you know what I mean, unique as in special, a special kind of personality and character. And yes, even that you may find eventually, but it's like a needle in a haystack, whereas whites and even some types of asian (nips, samsung folk) it's basically the norm that a person is an unique individual. Even native americans this is largely true if they aren't a drunk.
