actually, what is funny, is that the us was gave a run for its money simply fighting the relatively tiny resource poor island nation of japan, and likely would of afghanistaned the situation had they not acquired nukes (mountains, fierce resistance)... sure they were also contending with germany.
but suppose the us (alone basically) had to fight the entirety of continental europe and the uk on one front, and on the second, a south american coalition, likely/certainly, with chinese involvement or even a third front against china (and perhaps any nations they capture along the way) directly. ya imagine ru would take (or attempt to) ukr while erryone else is teh busy, and/or just kinda wait for the dust to settle.
why would the us use nukes if using them would mean certain complete destruction? Also, being mindful that the us does not have the same manufacturing capacity as during ww2, and it would take a while to spin up that capacity, all the while it's infrastructure would be vulnerable to attack, unlike in ww2. and, it's possible something like a civil war could complicate things given the whims and ignorance of its glorious child-emperor danny mcdanny and his merry band of court-jesters.
