hm, china does not want taiwan, they want taiwan's chip tech/market and to remove the influence of people who value liberty
almost certainly tw has /contingencies/ to deny them their chip facilities, though the highly sensitive equipment would likely be damaged in a conflict, if they were spared they would afford tw the ability to stockpile equipment and such at those sites
internally ch isn't particularly stable, diverting resources to what would be a fairly major conflict would likely exacerbate things (probably paradoxically as they would mostly use the situation to showboat) as the population could use the occasion to attempt to castoff the chicoms (basically reigniting their civil war)
even w/o us intervention, it seems likely jp and sk would be involved as they rely on those chips (as does the us, but who the fuck knows, ya know... as well as many western nations), further motivating sk would be nk seeing an opportunity to pounce, if not actually pushed by ch (likely certain if us indicated their withdraw from the region)
and there's no guarantee that a war will have the desired outcome for any parties, ch has nukes? ru has nukes and they're being bested by a single nation (albeit with significant assistance), assistance that would be certain for tw, if for no other reason than the importance of their tech, essentially, to the entirety of modern computerizedcivilization.
