It's important that people feel like they fit in, especially for long-term discussions where they might open up to each other. On the Internet, you can seek the community where you actually fit it more than the others. Probably won't go well if you don't fit it: it's not some trivial "high school" metric of being cool; it's a real aspect of human psychology.

Not saying you have to agree all the time, just agree with or mutually respect each other enough. On the other hand, too much shit is on the Internet, and not enough stuff which should be on the Internet is on it. Example for too much stuff being online: If you want to get a job at a place which is popular beyond just your city or a tech-related place, then you have to fill out some shit at some website and message people digitally. Nigger, I don't need to send stupid emails so you can hire me to jack off dogs or whatever the fuck at some pet store. In the past you could get some job at the library or pet store or some such place all on physical paper (no Internet needed).

That's part of "things which should be on the Internet but aren't". Like so many never-digitized/not-online VHS tapes, rare media, etc. I recently made a torrent of this guy's documentary of traveling in Australia. Learned there's an Australian city named Darwin (after Charles Darwin) and another named uh... I forgot, some anagram like Glenelg. That documentary was on TV in 1992, and I saw zero footage of it on the Internet until I recently shared it with some people or uploaded it. I'd post the magnet link to the ~4 GB video data, but IDK if anyone here cares to see it.

Bro, I already made a website outside of the reach of FAGMAN / big corpo:
https://ipfs3.eth.limo/a/

Paid 5 USD worth of ETH for 1 year of control of that domain via the ENS registrar. It holds more than 10 terabytes of IPFS data, but only ~half of it is "constantly" reachable since I don't have the other computer+HDDs running all the time.

As for the blog-like thing you posted about, I made some of those webpages too...

>so you pay for the domain and provide the local hosting yourself?
Yup. Other registrars/setups do that too. You pay for a domain name and it'll point to the port-forwarded IP address of your physical router; you deal with the storage. Or make a .onion site for free (no registry besides DHT) and you also do the local hosting yourself. With .eth the default service+storage is IPFS. I recommend having network-level duplication with HAProxy, or at least a ZFS mirror pool. You probably want to set the content hash to ipns:// and not ipfs:// = can update the site without paying ~0.02 USD per update.

Making example.eth point to an IP address or .onion address is seemingly not the main point of ENS; if you own a .eth, then a human-readable name resolves to a machine-readable crypto address. Example as of this year (checked at 2026-01-12T05:27:40.469222220Z):
https://etherscan.io/address/ipfs3.eth

Learned this the hard way. I remember watching some video where it seemed like you could connect an IP or .onion to .eth. Apparently, with ENS/.eth, the only way to run whatever service or web server (like nginx, Apache, etc.) is to use a custom resolver. Don't use the public resolver which is just someone's IPFS gateway. Otherwise, I was thinking of making ipfs3.eth a replacement for ipfs2.eth -- which no longer works -- but it used a non-public resolver plus certain code:
https://discuss.ens.domains/t/ipfs2-eth-web3-ipfs-gateway-mainnet/17140
https://etherscan.io/address/0xb4BA47783Ff613ec55c9ECdaF38fCF29D7632048#code
https://github.com/namesys-eth/ipfs2-eth-resolver

BTW, coincidence on this random CID, which ends in "Pmv", and some of the contents of the folder:
https://archive.is/2026.01.16-214357/https://ipfs3.eth.limo/created/webui/QmcAG5vfJPweBS9dJKnxSYXUqNP3EXd3qXZAifhwUFmPmv/

>I'll dig through my Linux Format magazines and look for the one with the who to create a .onion site
I have one "Linux Format" magazine nearby! Physical print media published in late 2025, has "2026" in the title. Something like "Linux Format Annual 2026".

Making a .onion site is real easy. You can look at a YouTube video or whatever else if you want; those will tell you how to do it. Only annoying part might be trying to keep the file permissions and other little things straight in /var/lib/tor/ if copying it to another computer or something (had such issues multiple times). /etc/tor/torrc is pretty simple. You can make a vanity address by using mkp224o:
https://community.torproject.org/onion-services/advanced/vanity-addresses/
https://github.com/cathugger/mkp224o

Vanity address example:

I went to that site by proxy. I appreciate the effort, but problems with certain unpopular imageboards is this:
- they disappear with no archives
- they're a honeypot
- they're not very anonymous

About the third point - with a small userbase, even if everyone is posting as "Anonymous": they aren't. If someone posts a lot, then you can tell by their posting style. Stylometry is (definition from two different sources):
- quantitative analysis of writing style, which can help in authorship attribution.
- "A statistical method of analyzing a text to determine its author." (!wt)

Stylometry has existed before 2018, and AI slop now may make it easier to do for people using stylometric analysis software. If you're fine with not being anonymous, and don't care if it's a honeypot (is it a "no logs" site?), then go for it. That chanii site appears to have only existed for 1 year, so not much trust until it has existed for 3, 4, or more years.

That other site that starts with a "4" is probably more anonymous than this site (starts with a "7") due to the 4 site having many more posters, but that's just one criterion of quality.
