To all the people that are depressed, have you tried just like doing something you enjoy doing? Like is there something that you kind of relax while doing it? Relax, forget your worries, actually get involved and engaged and kind of enjoy the process of?

How about you just do that and airwolf the rest? I'm not talking about like if you're having hallucinations or whatever, I know that there are some serious mental and spiritual challenges that people go through, but if you're just sad about the state of the world and about your own state, why don't you just do something that you enjoy and forget all that shit for a fortnight?

If you bring up finances or whatever, treat it as a hobby, get your money in, get some food, get some shelter and for the rest of the time do the thing. In other words, take care of the business in the least offensive way possible and give that as much time as is needed and then just move on with your life, enjoy your life, do something creative and engaging. Claim the rest of your time completely for yourself.

And if you say that in the current economy or situation or whatever you pretty much have to work 90% of your free time, well, move. Use your brain a little bit. Don't be a complete airwolfing strawberry.

I guess that is kind of an easy thing to say but it can be difficult for some people to shake depression when they get into a routine. Then when you are depressed you are lethargic and you know, blahhhhh... so you are less likely to improve your situation. I appreciate you trying to be motivational though. I don't mind much, but alot of people won't respond to "just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and make it happen".

>move

Possibly a good idea. Go to where the jobs are and your passion is. Many people say they can't afford a home, but they are looking at very expensive areas to live. Interest rates suck, yeah... but you may be able to refinance in the future. If you can get by with your skills in a state or area with a lower median home price, it may be worth it. You don't have to live there forever. Buy and sell and work your way up to your dream homes in the locations you want. It's also important to know that some people may not be doing so well at the moment and may only have a few thousand in savings. That emergency fund may be it and moving can be a pricy and arduous effort. (; ̄ー ̄川

Getting out of your comfort zone and even just taking a class at your local community college or continuing education center might be worth it. If you are in a trade or sector that is friendly to a sabbatical or if you are between jobs this is the time to do many things OP said and rediscover your loves and passions. If you are lucky enough to travel, make yourself a checklist on things you want to get done beyond just relaxing and being a tourist. Look at property, neighborhoods, inquire about taxes and life wherever you are. I will be going back to Japan for another month next month. There are two things I have tasked myself to do there this time. The first is inquire about inexpensive rural properties, possibly even abandoned land. This is a real thing in Japan where it's native population is decreasing. The second is to attend two auto auctions which I am currently registered for and talk to a few people and look at some second generation Honda NSX's in person. It's a real complicated process importing right hand drive cars yourself and they stopped production in Japan in 2020. So while when I visited in May my goals were to make friends and to acclimate myself, this time I am going to check out Tokyo up to Hokkaido and also Okinawa and do some other things to make it more worthwhile. Traveling can still be economical if you do it right. Fly commercial economy instead of charter, stay in inexpensive hotels, hostels, capsules, meet people, share rides and public transportation! Everyone should go see and be a part of this big wonderful world we live in! (´◡`)

Errm... sorry got off-topic. Let's all make our lives better. Got it! d(-_^)

one of the symptoms of depression is not being able to feel pleasure from anything. doing something you enjoy will stop giving you pleasure. people aren't usually depressed because of something that happens in their life, it's usually mostly genetic.

thanks asshole I really enjoyed being condescended in your miserable little pep talk. why don't have you ask whether any of this obvious shit didn't occur to us already? because it's very insulting to think your bullshit can be applied to any case and that you could change someone's life with a single gesture. your incredulity is the reason this won't work, you just don't airwolfing know.

Being depressed does not give you get out of jail free card for being an asshole. No, this is not meant as an insult, rather to help you understand. I will not sympathize with you just because you're depressed bro. I was depressed, yet I wasn't an asshole. Don't pretend that it's not a choice.
>>829307
Well so thought I as well, at least for the first 24 or so years of my life when all I knew was depression. But I can tell you right now with extreme confidence, that it's not genetic. Yeah, it can run in families, but that doesn't necessarily make it genetic. I am the proof of that. But I totally understand where you're coming from. It's a compelling view.

As for nothing being pleasurable..... Yeah, there's truth to that but I think it's mostly because they (depressed people) don't allow themselves to relax and look around. If they did, I'm not saying that they would immediately see something utterly ecstatic, but it would see something good and they would see something beautiful and without putting too much stock in it, they could do it and it would be pleasurable. It doesn't have to be Niagara falls from the first second you start doing it, but it can be an angel's fall pretty much anytime, once you allow yourself to relax and zero out a little. The reason they stayed depressed is because they keep fueling it without realizing it. They keep doing things that are not pleasurable thinking that these things are better than the things that are pleasurable. If they allowed themselves to be serene for even as little as a day, they would see right through it all. When you wake up, you can already be pretty serene, just don't do anything that would distract you from that. But the truth is that they become bored and do some shitty stuff instead of just being serene.

And yes, if you are in survival mode, it doesn't count, because you have to do what you have to do to survive. In that case indeed there's almost nothing you can do except wait for the survival mode to end by ensuring you are in a safe and peaceful environment and your need for food and shelter is taken care of. But that's doable, and on this planet in this society there is enough opportunity to navigate yourself out of complete survival mode. Even if you must be in that mode, it almost never for almost anyone lasts 24 hours out of the 24 hours. If it did, you wouldn't even sleep. You would die very soon. So, less execuses you slags and more responsibility taking m-kay?

I guess there are truly two ways to live a life. One is to become truly alive and then die and another is to never truly become alive and then die.

Stupid thing to say when the illness causes such ennui that people can't even face getting out of bed.

There's numbness and there's sadness, when sadness is deep enough - it has an intensity. This intensity prevents boredom or ennui. You can't be bored when you are being put through that. If you are bored - I'd argue you're not depressed really.

To all the people that think depression is fake, have you tried just like having a little empathy? Like is there something wrong with your anterior insula? Chill out, think about other people's situations, or are you just being a dick because it makes you feel better about yourself?

How about you consider realistically how people can deal with their problems? I'm not talking about like if you're having delusions of grandeur or whatever, I know that there are some serious developmental and educational challenges that you are facing, but if you're just jealous about how much attention depressed people get and about your much more you think you deserve, why don't you spend a couple of days exploring your own narcissism?

If you find you're depressed or whatever, treat it as a disease, get your treatment in, get some therapy, get some medicine and for the rest of the time take it easy. In other words, take care of your mental health in the most effective way possible and give that as much time as is needed and then just move on with your life, enjoy your life, do something creative and engaging. Claim the rest of your time completely for yourself.

And if you say that in the current state of psychiatric overdiagnosis or whatever you pretty much have to dismiss 90% of depression cases, well, fuc‍k off. Use your brain a little bit. Don't be a complete fuc‍king ret‍ard.

Being a ghost isn't that much different than what it's like to be alive. Lots of commuting involved, lots of waiting.
