So just a question to ask here for curiosity sake but what was the anime that got you into anime/manga in the first place and would you recommend that anime or manga to someone whose more new to the medium?
for me the anime I had the latest memory of watching would be stuff like pokemon,digimon,dbz,ghost of the shell and ones I have the most positive memory of are a few episodes of heaven's lost property,needless and a anime I'd recommend would be
red ranger becomes an adventurer in another world if ya big fan of pr/ss or tokustatsu in general or gurren lagan if you love big ridiculous mecha battles under aniplex and for manga I remember first seeing is haruhi sazyumiya and shaman king and recommend those along the legend of zelda manga spefically the one of minish cap and wind waker along majora and ocarina of time

Apart from imageboards which was the main point of exposure, I reckon Miyazaki, and yes. Although his films are FAR from created equal, but 90% of it is better than idk...

Oh DBZ, ofc, but that was just normal TV for me growing up. Probably wouldn't recommend, but mainly because our lives are so fucking short.

I actually mostly hate anime and only watch it SUPER selectively and based on recommendations from my friends, which I then filter even more. So far the only animes I have watched:

Spirited Away

Madoka
Kobayashi Dragon Maid

Growing up, my only experience with anime was the classic stuff I saw on TV, like DBZ, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Pokémon, etc... and it was always the English Dub. I liked it, but not enough to pursue other anime, because I (retardedly) figured it was all going to be more of the same type of stuff. In fact, I assumed anime was more of a genre, rather than its own thing.
Fast forward like 15 years later, I watched Aria The Animation for the first time, and I was completely enthralled. I had never seen anything like it, it was one of the most relaxing and comfiest things I had ever watched. I really wanted to find more like it, and that's when I realized I love slice of life and CGDCT.
To this day, Aria remains my favorite series. I was really happy when it got a movie recently, I didn't expect that. I love Aria.
